And The Award Goes To…

Brent Burger of Fairfield Maine.

Brent has invested thousands of dollars and many hours to help a family of 10 keep their home after the father committed suicide. Karen Champagne, the now single mother, was left with huge debt and no way to keep up with the bills. Brent read about the problem in a local newspaper and decided to do something about it.

I think this story is an incredible reminder that we need to get involved. We are the hands and feet that can take care of the poor, the hurting, the left behind. What can we do this week to be those hands?

Instead of praising Brent Burger for all he has done, how about recognizing the people he left high and dry with a $800 electric bill who were kind enough to contact him and offer to rent their home to him for Karen and her family during the whole process. He is praised as a saint the gave thousands of dollars to help this family but he is nothing but a crook who doesn’t pay his bills to those who tried to help him help them.

I see that you have posted this response all over the place, so you must be pretty bitter. All I can say, without knowing the specifics, is that I am sorry you feel that you were cheated.

The situation between you and Mr. Burger does nothing to diminish the value of his work, and the compassion he displayed. I still believe his story is worthy of our attention and consideration. Sainthood isn’t required of those who do good deeds, just a willingness to act.
